Services

Each service below is covered by a flat monthly fee agreed in advance. Take the full engagement, or only the areas where you need assistance.

Included at every level

The same commitments apply to the smallest engagement and the largest.

  • One business day

Calls and emails are answered within one business day, including during month-end and tax season.

  • Flat monthly fee

Agreed in writing before any work begins, and it does not change because a month took longer than expected.

  • No setup fee

Onboarding, chart of accounts, and connecting your bank feeds are part of the engagement rather than a separate charge.

  • No long-term contract

Month to month with thirty days notice. The arrangement continues because it is working, not because of a term you signed.

  • Fixed catch-up quote

Historical cleanup is quoted as a single fixed project with a defined scope, never billed against an open hourly total.

  • Books your CPA can use

Closed, reconciled, and delivered in the format your accountant asks for, which typically reduces their fee.

How it works

Four steps from the first conversation to books closed on a reliable schedule.

01 Introductory call

A thirty-minute conversation about your business and the current state of your records. You will receive a candid assessment of the work involved, with no obligation to proceed.

02 Review and proposal

A review of your existing file or statements, followed by a written scope and a fixed monthly price. You will know the exact figure before any work begins.

03 Cleanup and setup

Any outstanding periods are brought current, your accounts are connected, the chart of accounts is corrected, and a monthly closing date is agreed.

04 Monthly cycle

Your books are closed by the middle of the following month and your reports are delivered on schedule. Questions are answered by the person who prepared them.

Who you are
working with

TruBalance is Brenda Lafleur. Your work is handled by her directly, rather than routed through a call center or reassigned to a different bookkeeper each quarter.

Reporting is delivered in plain language. You will know what your numbers say, what they mean for the business, and what needs attention while there is still time to act on it.

Dates worth knowing

The deadlines that carry a penalty when they pass. Clients receive a reminder ahead of each one.

Federal and Connecticut small business filing deadlines
Jan 15 Fourth quarter estimated tax payment due
Jan 31 W-2s and 1099-NECs due to recipients and to the IRS
Mar 15 S-corporation and partnership returns due (1120-S, 1065)
Apr 15 Individual and C-corporation returns due. First quarter estimated tax
Jun 15 Second quarter estimated tax payment due
Sep 15 Third quarter estimated tax. Extended S-corporation and partnership returns
Oct 15 Extended individual returns due
Monthly Connecticut sales and use tax, due the last day of the following month

When a date lands on a weekend or a federal holiday it moves to the next business day. Your own filing dates can differ, so treat this as a general guide rather than advice on your situation.

Questions

The questions that come up most often on a first call.

Are you a CPA?

No, and the distinction matters. A bookkeeper keeps your day-to-day records accurate and current. A CPA files your returns and advises on tax strategy. TruBalance works alongside your accountant and hands them books that are already closed and reconciled, which usually reduces their fee.

What does it cost?

A flat monthly fee, quoted after a review of your books, that does not vary with the hours a month happens to take. The estimator on this page will give you a realistic range in about fifteen seconds. Historical cleanup is quoted separately as a fixed project.

Am I locked into a contract?

No. The engagement runs month to month with thirty days notice, and there is no setup or onboarding fee. Establishing your chart of accounts and connecting your bank feeds is part of the work, not a separate charge.

My records are badly out of date. Is that a problem?

It is the most common reason clients get in touch. Books years behind, categories that no longer reflect the business, accounts that have never reconciled. All of it is recoverable. The work begins with an honest assessment of the scope and a fixed price to complete it.

Do we need to meet in person?

Only if you prefer to. Everything runs securely online, which makes it straightforward to work with businesses across Connecticut and beyond. Clients nearby are welcome to meet in person.

What software do you work in?

QuickBooks Online for most clients. If you use something else, or work from spreadsheets and paper, that is workable too. You will get a straight answer on whether changing platforms is worth it in your situation.

How do I send you my documents?

Through a secure shared folder, or read-only access to your accounts if you prefer. Sensitive documents are never sent over ordinary email.
